My daughter (who will be five years old in 2 days!!) has a dress she is OBSESSED with. I’ve photographed her in it several times here and here. I found it at a used clothing store, like, in 2011!! and paid around $5 for it. It’s completely ragged out and stained but she loves it all the same. Holes included. Just when I was thinking it might be time for this little frock to “disappear” I stumbled on this ladies dress that was so similar it was like a grown up version of her dress. I had a silly idea that Chloe and I should take our picture together in these dresses. Here I am taking a picture of myself in the dressing room because I just couldn’t decide if I should buy it. I bought it but I kept thinking, ok, Jenny. This is probably the cheesiest idea you’ve ever had. I came home and we tried the dresses on together. She loved the idea, of course! I planned to have my husband take one or two shots with us in it and return the dress.
Fast forward a couple of months and I posed the idea to fellow film photographer Abbie McFarland. I was almost wincing with embarrassment as I hit ‘send’ on my message. I mean come on, a “Mommy and Me” session where we’re dressed alike? LAME! Lucky for me, Abbie not only loved the idea she blew me away with her creativity, ideas and authenticity. Totally exceeded my expectations! These are such sweet and touching photos Abbie took of us and I can’t think of a better way to ring in Chloe’s fifth year… and say goodbye to that dress! ha!!
