Chinese-American Wedding Featured on Martha Stewart
This was one of those weddings, filled with timeless, classic beauty, begging to be shot by a film photographer, and I was oh-so-happy to oblige. These two were officially married in 2012 after a trip to the courthouse and a visit to Cartier, followed by an impromptu honeymoon to Hawaii, but they still longed for their dream wedding. They wanted to be able to celebrate with family and friends, and it was worth the wait to save up to do exactly that.
Their dream wedding finally happened at The Laurel in Grapevine, TX. They were thrilled to fly in loved ones from China. They kicked off the celebrations with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, during which they rocked their custom ensembles, crafted by Chinese Artisans. (How COOL are those pieces?!)
Ivana lived every bride’s dream, as she got to wear not one but two gowns on her wedding day. A breathtaking ballgown, and a fun, flirty, flared dress, covered in dragonflies, which was a recurring motif throughout their wedding. Set against the backdrop of marigolds, blues, and deep reds (the color of luck in Chinese culture), this lucky-in-love couple said “I do” surrounded by family, friends, and the most stunning nods to their Chinese culture.
The reception didn’t disappoint either. Guests were welcomed into the cozy, intimate setting with a glowing fireplace and drapings of ivory silk all around. The soft shades of taupe, gray, and beige velvet table linens were the perfect backdrop for the wildflower-like centerpieces by Dallas florist Bows and Arrows.
Wedding Planner, Rebecca, from The Wildflowers described this wedding as “summer-meets-fall,” and I think that’s the perfect description. The feelings of a summer wedding in the bright, light, airy feel given by the bride’s white gown, the greenery, and the Cinderella blue of the bridesmaid dresses, but a fall wedding in the deep, moody, vibrant colors of the details.
What an honor it was to shoot this wedding and an even bigger honor to see it featured on Martha Stewart’s blog. Definitely a career highlight! It’s one I’ll remember for a very long time.
