McKinney Family Photography | Featuring Baby Makes Three

You might remember this sweet family from Breanne’s maternity session last year. They have a beautiful bouncing baby boy now and I am so honored they asked me to photograph them again. We photographed these about 6 months ago so this little guy should actually be turning one soon. Oh how time flies!

Many thanks to Little Bellows for featuring this session on their blog!

Ten

. Category: childhood, family, film fridays, personal

Ten is the number of years this boy is. Ten years since he burst forth into the world changing the course of my life. Ten years. Wow. A decade of being a mother. How clear in my mind the day of his birth is. I remember the Doctor coming in and saying, Ok, we’re ready to go! All of a sudden I started moaning and breathing deeply. She looked up What’s wrong? Where does it hurt? (I had an epidural so nothing was hurting.) I moaned back, Nothing huuurts. I’m juuust scaaaared!  I can laugh at this now but I was feeling true terror. It still terrifies me, actually. The idea that we’re responsible for making sure this boy grows up to be a good man blows my mind.

Alrighty then, on to photos before I give myself a panic attack. ; )

I happened upon the coolest wildflower field and knew this is where I wanted to take him for his birthday photos. I wanted something moody so I used all grainy black and white film. The weather even cooperated with stormy clouds off in the distance. I love how they came out. Nothing fancy, just him being a boy. Sometimes simple is best.

Depending on expression, he is you, then Sean, then you again, then both… its magic.

    • Thank you Kelly. I see that too sometimes. He especially looks like Sean when he’s getting on my nerves. ;)

Maria and Indy

. Category: childhood, family, film fridays

I have a beautiful outdoor “mother and child” session to share with you today. My dear friend  Maria and her family recently moved to the island of Mallorca and on a trip back to Dallas she asked me to photograph this special time between her and Indy. She wanted a soft, organic setting and I immediately thought of this location. What better way to symbolize emerging childhood than a wooden swing hanging from a huge oak tree! Add to that a crisp fall day, plenty of sunshine and a happy baby. I couldn’t have asked for more. : ) Thank you, Indy and Maria, for a beautiful afternoon. Dallas misses you! Mother and child session by Dallas photographer Jenny McCann. I am sad to say this was my last session at this wonderful location. As I type this, construction crews are cutting down trees and leveling the ground turning it into a 40 lot neighborhood. Boo! Luckily, this huge oak tree is being saved but the swing is gone and it doesn’t look anything like it once did. Not to be all “dramatic” but when I first saw the carnage, a wave of nausea hit me and I had to fight back tears. It just makes me so sad. :'( Since it is right down the street from my house I spent many afternoons here with my kids enjoying the acres and acres of beautiful rolling land, the creek, and lots of 100+ year old oak trees. It became one of my favorite locations to shoot at. *sigh* All in the name of progress, I guess. RIP you beautiful gem. The Mother and Child photos are incredible. You captured their delight in each other. Beautiful!
The tree tribute is also gorgeous and will supply a bit of history for that area.
    Change~

  2. Jenny, thank you so much for these sweet photos. I love my son beyond measure and it means the world to me to have these images of the two of us. xoxo

    • Thank you so much!!
